Fixed Wing Training
Whether you’re a member just starting out and looking to learn the basics of fixed wing powered flight, or you’re ready for your A-Certificate, or one of many the BMAC members who would like to learn more advanced skills, our club instructors and experts can help you get started, and progress you to the A-Certificate level and beyond.
Beginners to A-Certificate
Whether you are a complete Beginner, or already a fairly competent flyer preparing for a BMFA A-Certificate, our instructors and other experts are on-hand to help you move onwards and upwards. Like most clubs, training and advice is provided on a voluntary basis. It is completely free of charge, and those providing instruction will also be active flyers.
Once a flyer is able to fly safely and has attained their A-Certificate, they are able to fly unsupervised and continue to progress their flying skills as far as they wish.
If you are complete beginner, the most important advice is to NOT BUY ANYTHING until you have spent time talking to experienced Instructors and have looked around at other people’s models and transmitters.
The adjacent buttons will take you to Club material describing our approach to training, advice on Model Selection and some words on improvement beyond the A-Certificate.
It is also worthwhile having a look around on the internet as plenty of other clubs and individuals have produced excellent guides to assist individuals in taking up the hobby, as well as giving views and ‘hints & tips’ on training.
One very good example of this is the Dumfries Model Flying Club’s Beginners Guide along with the BMFA’s very own ‘Flying Start’. Both documents are linked via their respective websites from the buttons to the left.
Beyond the ‘A’
Once you have achieved the A-Certificate, you will start flying ‘Solo’, that is, un-supervised. This will give you scope to develop your style of flying and to progress to more advanced models, perhaps Scale, Aerobatic, EDF…..
As you progress, you can still get help and advice with the models and the flying and even move on to obtain a B-Certificate if you wish. Our Moving Up guide can give you a few pointers to help you on your way.
